As the temperatures heat up in the month of August, so did the racing at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina with eight exciting races. NC811 and Piedmont Natural Gas are proud sponsors of the #1 Modified driven by Burt Myers. NC811 and Piedmont Natural Gas hosted an employee appreciation night by celebrating 8-11 Day at the Stadium on Saturday, August 10th with a great night of cheering on Myers Racing.
August 11th is a nationally recognized day to remind folks to call 811 before you dig. Making that call protects both the community and public utilities. The member utilities send out professional locators to mark at no cost to the excavator.
The fun kicked off with a meet and greet pit tour with Burt Myers, driver of the #1 Modified. Myers took the time to shake hands and autograph Hero Cards. As everyone toured around the pits to look at cars from all divisions, they were well prepared to make their top picks for the evening races.
As the evening started to cool off around race time, the races heated up with action in all divisions. The Modified division ran twin 50 lappers. As Myers was striving for the win, an accident took place in front of him that held him to an 8th place finish in the first race. With the second race being a redraw of the top 16 positions, Myers started mid-pack and raced hard to a 6th place finish in the Brad’s Cart Modified Division. NC 811 and Piedmont Natural Gas employees waved their Burt Myers Foam Fingers to show their support.
At the end of the night, Burt Myers Racing was left in the mix of top competitors for a tight point’s battle that came down to the last event of the season on August 17th 2019. Burt Myers has been the reigning Modified Champion for the last three years and will chase a dream for his 10th Modified Championship at Bowman Gray Stadium.
As his driving skill proved successful Saturday night, Burt Myers was crowned the winner of the Modified Division tying his rival Tim Brown for the most Modified championships with 10 wins. Congrats to Burt Myers Racing for a great year of racing and as a great spokesperson for reminding everyone to Call 811 Before You Dig. Ann Rushing, Education Manager stated, “Burt Myers has been a great partner for damage prevention in 2019. He visited a live line electrical demo and natural gas fire pit training to understand why the 811 message was so important and that it saved lives. Each time Burt gets behind the wheel, his mission is all about safety and that makes for a natural connection.”
