Greensboro, NC (October 13, 2020) The Town of Waynesville of Waynesville, NC has been chosen as the NC811 Safe Digging Partner for September, 2020 due to its ongoing commitment to safety, damage prevention and spreading the “Call Before You Dig” message.
Many safe digging partners have made the commitment to call 811 prior to any excavation, but few go above and beyond with making safety their #1 priority. Town of Waynesville has shown their commitment to keeping their community, employees and utility providers safe. They participate in the monthly Utility Coordinating Committee meetings that share vital information about projects that affect utility infrastructure, they have placed safe digging partner stickers on their vehicles and have participated in the Pipes Plus training about best practices while digging around utilities. “This is truly the type of Safe Digging Partner NC811 is looking for: The commitment to keeping the community safe while excavating and providing a great utility service to their customer and the community,” said NC811’s Education Department Manager, Ann Rushing.
Town of Waynesville Public Utilities perform service work within the city limits of Waynesville and is proud to be a recipient of the Safe Digging Partner Award presented by NC 811. “We take many precautions on a daily basis to educate our employees as well as our customers on the importance of the guidelines of 811 to include internal training, tailgate meetings from crew leaders to the crews and formal classes as well. It is our primary objective to make sure all employees are trained/educated to have a safe working environment. At the end of the day we want all of our employees to go home safely to their families”, stated Jeff Stines, Town of Waynesville Public Utilities Director.
Every nine minutes an underground utility line is damaged because someone decided to dig without calling 811 first. Find out more about becoming a Safe Digging Partner.
Since 1978, North Carolina 811 has provided a fast and easy communications link with local utility providers. The public provides NC811 information about excavation, NC811 transmits the information to utilities and they send out locators to mark underground lines for free. Call 811 or 1-800-632-4949 three working days before you plan on digging.
