Greensboro, NC (December 14, 2016) The City of Raleigh, NC has been chosen as the NC811 Safe Digging Partner for December 2016 due to its ongoing commitment to safety, damage prevention and spreading the “Call Before You Dig” message to the public.

Many safe digging partners have made the commitment to call 811 prior to any excavation, but few go above and beyond with making safety their #1 priority.  The City of Raleigh has shown their commitment to keeping their community and employees safe.  They participate in monthly Wake County Utility Coordinating Committee meetings and Christopher McGee serves as chair of the North Carolina Underground Damage Prevention Review Board.  “This is truly the type of Safe Digging Partner NC811 is looking for:  The commitment to keeping the community safe while excavating and providing a vital utility service to their customers,” said NC811’s Education Department Manager Ann Rushing.  Christopher McGee, the Transportation Field Services Manager for the City of Raleigh, was presented the award from Louis Panzer, Executive Director of North Carolina 811.

NC811 acknowledged the City of Raleigh’s commitment to damage prevention at their Raleigh, NC office on Friday, December 9, 2016 with a Safe Digging Partner award certificate.  “The City of Raleigh is honored to receive the Safe Digging Partner Award.  This award exemplifies our commitment to keeping our citizens and our employees safe.  The city promotes the safe digging message throughout all of our operational divisions as well as to our community.  Safety isn’t a priority for us, it’s a way of life!” said Christopher McGee.

Every six minutes an underground utility line is damaged because someone decided to dig without calling 811 first.  Find out more about becoming a Safe Digging Partner.
